Ryan and I were driving home. We had ordered takeaway but it wouldn’t be ready for 20 minutes, and that’s when Ryan asked my favorite question. “Do you want to go to the library while we wait?”. This wasn’t even on Valentines day people, am I lucky or what? Obviously I said yes. Books surrounded me just a few minutes later. Now, my local library is small compared to some others in the county, but nonetheless I knew I would find a good read. So I perused the shelves waiting for something to catch my eye.
Of course I do. When I saw this book jacket I just had to know the plot! Plus, it had been a while since I had read a short story, so I checked it out and off we went.
My Review of The Grownup
The Grownup by Gillian Flynn is a witty tale about a young woman, raised con-artist. She finally meets a client who may realize she’s a fraud, but her good name isn’t the only thing on the line. With action at every opportunity it was impossible for me to put this book down, and I ended up finishing it in one sitting. Flynn captures your attention with charming characters, and more than one plot twist. At 62 pages, this is a quick read I would recommend to anyone. You can find The Grownup here, or check out your own local library!
Would I check out another short story? Absolutely! The length is perfect for those days where you don’t have time for a novel. For me personally, I loved being able to finish the story all at once and I felt more connected to the plot without breaking it up. Do you have any short story recommendations? Let me know in the comments!
